Rugby League World Cup Fever comes to Bolton Arena

Rugby League World Cup fever has arrived in Bolton Arena.

On 19th October, we played host to several schools in the local area, giving them the chance to play Rugby League, ahead of England's World Cup encounter v France on Saturday 22nd October.

Several established men's and women's international players were at the Arena to provide guidance to the local students, including Maxime Puech, Paul Marcon and Maxime Stefani, representing the French men's side, whilst Wigan Warriors captain, Rachel Thompson was also present.

The sessions were organised by Bolton Council in collaboration with Wigan Warriors, who also brought in the Challenge Cup, the previous week, for photo opportunities.

After the session, Eloi Pelissier, Louis Jouffret, and Cesar Rouge, of the men's French national team were present in our Arena Suite for a Q & A session with the local students.

Team manager of the French national team, David Collado, said: “We’re proud, very proud, to share with young people here and to be this involved with them as a national team.

“We’re happy as soon as we can to get our professionals to come to play with young kids and play with the ball with them."

England international and Wigan Warriors women’s captain, Rachel Thompson, started off in rugby league at local side, Westhoughton Lions

She said: “When I was eight, my brother played down there and I just kind of went down to give it a go

Bolton Arena Managing Director, Neil Hutchinson added "We are excited to be helping grow the grass roots game by working with local schools to give young people a chance to try Rugby League. We are really looking forward to Saturday's game and to welcoming supporters and families by opening up our hospitality."

Bolton Arena are hosting a pre match Event Bar and Café, ahead of the England v France fixtures on Saturday 22nd October. Located on our first floor Arena Suite, this will be open from 12:00 - 17:00, whilst we will be screening the Fiji v Italy match at 14:30. For more information on this, please call 01204 488112.
