Putting the ALL in football!

Even if you’ve not played the game before, walking football is for you too. 

It’s exactly what it sounds like – a standard game of football, but with no contact, where the players walk instead of run. It’s a sport that has become increasingly popular with over 200,000 players now actively playing the game.   

It helps participants to get fit, support an active, healthy lifestyle and develop new friendships. 

Older people who play have seen many benefits:  

  • Lower heart rate and blood pressure. 
  • Less fat. 
  • More muscle. 
  • Better mobility.   

Our programme offers social football sessions, friendly matches against other walking football teams and for those who want to play more competitively, we accommodate teams into leagues and tournaments.

Walking football rules 

Our walking football rules are there to make the game fair for our participants. Please see below: 

  • Trainers only – no studded boots. 
  • No tackling from behind / side. 
  • No slide tackling.  
  • Players are not allowed to jog or run while the ball is in play – any infringement is penalised with an indirect free kick to the other side. 
  • No play above head height. 
  • ALWAYS respect the ref’s decision!

For our women’s walking football sessions, we take players aged 40 years and older, and for our male matches we take players aged 50 years and older.  

There is no uniform for our walking football sessions. However, we do play outdoors so please ensure you are comfortable – ideally wearing sportswear and trainers (no football boots) suitable for the weather conditions. 

Our walking football is just £4.25 per session. 

Walking Football Summer Period (April – October)

  • Monday: 19:00-20:00 (women’s only). 
  • Tuesday: 10:00-11:00 and 19:00- 20:00. 
  • Thursday: 19:30-20:30 
  • Friday: 10:00-11:00  
  • Sunday: 10:00-11:00

Walking Football Winter Period (October – April)

  • Monday: 19:00-20:00 (women’s only). 
  • Tuesday: 10:00-11:00 and 20:00- 21:00. 
  • Thursday: 19:30-20:30 
  • Friday: 10:00-11:00  
  • Sunday: 10:00-11:00 

Yes, we have four teams which are organised by age group: Over-40s (women-only), Over-50s, 60s and 70s (men’s and women’s). 

After a period of attending the weekly sessions, players will also have the opportunity to join a Bolton Arena Sports Village 6-A-Side walking football team. However, this isn’t compulsory and always remains the choice of the player. Bolton Arena Sports Village teams play friendlies vs. other walking football clubs, play in leagues and also tournaments across Lancashire.  

For the more ambitious players, walking football also offers the opportunity to play at regional and international level to which Bolton Arena Sports Village has a host of players playing representative football at a higher than club level
