Want to resume activity?
Our sessions bring people together through sport, improve your fitness through the steady cardio of walk sports whilst also forging new friendships, fun and wellbeing.
At Bolton Arena Sports Village, we want to ensure we offer something for everyone’s ability and comfort level, so you can still be fit and active without overdoing it.
Older people playing walking sports have seen many benefits, including:
- Lower heart rate and blood pressure.
- Less fat and more muscle.
- Better mobility.
But it’s not just health benefits – walking sport offers social benefits too.
It gives you a chance to meet new people, avoid becoming isolated, and interact with individuals and small groups whether on or off the pitch.
Our walking sports range across our activities, read on to see which one suits you.
If you’re interested, scroll to the bottom of this page and fill in the registration form and we will be in touch as soon as possible.
Walking Netball
Netball is still netball, even if you play at walking pace. The game is designed so that anyone can join in, regardless of age or fitness level.
Players all over the UK are enjoying the health and fitness benefits walking netball offers, but just as important is the fun and camaraderie the sessions create. It can give those who feel lonely an all-important social outlet.
If you deem yourself not fit enough to run, or you’re just looking for a way back to the court, walking netball is for you.
Session times:
Tuesday 10.00 – 11.00, more competitive players
Tuesday 11.00 – 12.00, less competitive players
Walking Football
Walking Football is becoming increasingly popular with more than 200,000 players – male and female – now actively playing the game in nationwide.
It’s exactly what it sounds like – a standard of the game of football where players walk instead of run – the only difference being the game in non-contact.
It’s designed to help people get fit and / or maintain an active lifestyle no matter what their age or fitness, as well as support people getting back into football who may have given up due to age, injury or lack of opportunity.
Sticking to the same routine month in and month out can sometimes make people feel like they’re going through the motions. Joining in a physical activity with a group of people around your age can be a breath of fresh air, make you laugh and give you a sense of wellbeing.
Session times:
Women’s only 19.00 – 20.00
Tuesday 10.00 – 11.00 and 20.00 – 21.00
Thursday 19.30 – 20.30
