Celebrating 20 years with Matt Potts
Continuing with our 20 Years Interviews, this month we catch up with our Gym Manager, Matt Potts.
Can you tell us more about your role and background?
I have been in the fitness industry 26 years and have progressed from a Leisure Attendant to Gym Instructor to Health and Fitness Manager during that time, which is now the role I currently hold at Bolton Arena.
What made you apply for a job at Bolton Arena?
Having worked in a small hotel leisure facility, I wanted to have the opportunity to expand my knowledge by working in a larger facility with more opportunities to develop my role and expertise.
Do you remember your first day?
I arrived on my first day and remember being very nervous as it was a large gym/facility. However, this was short lived, as I was made to feel very welcome and soon settled into my new surroundings.
What do you think is your biggest achievement since you have been here?
My biggest achievement here is going from being a shy 25-year-old progressing through to managing a gym team and developing an understanding of team and people management.
What has been your favourite memory from the past 20 years?
I do not have one favourite memory as I have been lucky enough to work with some fantastic people over the years who have made my job enjoyable and, although challenging, I have learnt a lot from different people.
