Double "National Team" Champions
This weekend saw the end of season LTA’s National Junior Club League Premier Finals take place at the National Tennis Centre.
Over 25,000 players take part in league competitions each year at local, regional and national levels, with players representing clubs from U8 to U18, from April to July each year. Each team has a minimum of 4 players who each play one single match followed by a doubles match.
Bolton Arena was successful in the regional qualifiers, with our 12 & Under Girls team advancing to the finals after playing teams from Leeds and Hull, whilst our 14 & Under Boys fended off competition from Leeds, Leicestershire and Ilkley in order to secure their place into the finals.
After a semi-final win over Cambridge LTC, our U12s Girls Team claimed the title via a 10-2 win over Kent-based, Sevenoaks Tennis Centre. Despite losing the 1st singles match, our U12s Girls won the remaining singles contests and the crucial doubles result to claim the National League 2021 Premier 12 & Under Girls Title. The feat was made all the more impressive by the fact that 3 of the 4 girls are still U11, therefore making them eligible to represent us at U12 level again next year.
Our U14 Boys advanced to the final after emerging victorious over Swansea Tennis Centre in a 10-2 encounter. Facing off against Reed's School from Surrey, our Boys fell behind after losing the opening 2 singles matches and one doubles match. A display of real grit and determination ensured that we were able to force a shootout at the end of the tie. The shootout took place and was the only match still being played at the tournament. Parents, players and captains gathered around the court cheering on each team and after 20 minutes of a nerve-racking, topsy-turvy contest, Bolton Arena U14 Boys were crowned champions after a 14-12 shootout win, earning us the title of National League 2021 Premier 14 & Under Boys Winners.
