Bolton Arena Walking Footballers return home from international duty
Two of Bolton Arena's Walking Footballers have recently returned home from Bilbao, Spain, after representing England Walking Football at international level.
Pictured are Bolton Arena players Andy Clarke and David Mort, who have played Walking Football at Bolton Arena for the past 7 years.
Andy Clarke (pictured left), has represented England before, got himself on the scoresheet for the Over 50s in the semi-final vs France in a 4-0 win. Unfortunately, England O50s were unable to carry this momentum through to the final, as they succumbed to a 2-1 final defeat, vs the hosts from the Basque Country.
The goal marked a remarkable individual feat for Andy, who was making his first international appearance since suffering a heart attack whilst playing, last December. After a couple of months out, Andy was back playing sessions in February. His international record now stands at 5 goals in 4 games.
David Mort (pictured right) made his international debut during this trip, and marked it with 2 goals in a 3-0 victory over Italy. David represented the Over 70s and is looking forward to making this a regular occurrence, particularly citing hearing the national anthem when walking out as a standout moment for him.
Over the past 7 years, Bolton Arena have developed a high number of players who have aimed to progress up the football ladder, from club sessions, friendlies and league programmes, to county level, representing Bolton Wanderers and at international level.
One of the overarching aims of Bolton Arena is to have player representation at all national levels, from O50s - O70s in the men's game and from O40s - O60s in the women's game.
