Staff and members can look back on March with a great deal of pride.
The Let’s Move For A Better World challenge took over the gym from March 1st to 19th. The challenge is part of a global fight against physical inactivity and obesity by the Arena’s gym equipment supplier Technogym.
The aim of the challenge was for members to accumulate as many MOVEs as possible on the Technogym equipment – MOVEs being Technogym’s unit of exercise.
A total of 267 members took part, accumulating a remarkable 982,041 MOVEs. Bolton Arena’s top movers were Gary Cuthbertson and Joanne Cartwright, who each won a year’s gym membership, with Carol Wroe finishing third. Lots more members also won t-shirts and sweatbands as spot prizes.
Internationally, 121,000 people took part at 513 facilities, accumulating 404, 325, 122 MOVEs. The Arena’s Commercial Manager, Gwyn Hughes, stated: “It’s fantastic to be part of such a massive global movement against obesity and physical inactivity. We have a good track record in these challenges and, yet again, our members joined in great numbers and did us proud. Thanks to everyone who participated.”
Members and staff also got involved in activities for Sport Relief on March 18. There was a cake sale and a charity bike ride, in which staff and customers covered an impressive 269 km. All of which raised an equally impressive £337.50 for Sport Relief.
Commented Gwyn Hughes: “As a sporting organisation with sporty staff, Sport Relief is close to our hearts and one of our designated charities for 2016. Thanks to all the staff who baked – and burned – calories, and thanks to all who supported by donating and buying cakes.”
