NAME: Jenny Green
CAREER PATH: After leaving Westhoughton Sixth Form College three years ago I was interested in taking a journalism degree at university but when I looked at them I realised that wasn’t really for me. I felt that customer service was a broad field that would offer plenty of opportunities and managed to get an apprenticeship at the USN Bolton Arena working on reception. I did that for a year and a half and loved it, and when that came to an end I was offered a permanent job here.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL? We’re really the first point of call for everyone who comes into the Arena so it’s an important role. We deal with all the people coming to the gym, for gymnastics, tennis and football, and coming to all the events and conferences.
WHAT ATTRIBUTES DOES YOUR JOB NEED? You need to know everything that’s going on at the Arena on a day-to-day basis. You need to be calm, helpful and confident to deal with all the different inquiries and situations.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB? That it’s so fast-paced and interesting and that everyday is different – you never know what it’s going to bring!
WHAT IS YOUR CAREER PLAN? I’d like to work in different teams at the Arena. I’ve already been in some but I’d like to do some more training and, hopefully, work up to being Customer Service Manager.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE ARENA? The Arena staff – everyone here is very friendly and although we’re made up of different teams, we’re a community all working together.
