IT’S been a brilliant Summer of Sport so far – and there’s still so much more to come!
We’ve already had some amazing football matches in the Euros with patriotic feelings running high, especially for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Wonder goals have come from players like top scorers Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo and nail-biters in the group stages included a 3-3 draw between Hungary and Poland.
However, now the Euros are over for England you may want to turn your attention to other sporting events over the next few months. Wimbledon has been delighting many with its clutch of major stars vying for honours and lesser-known players giving the performance of their lives. The finals on July 9th and 10th offer special viewing for tennis fans – and I know many tennis fans here at the Arena will be in front of their TV screens then.
The Tour de France gets underway on July 2nd with a chance to marvel at this talented field of international cyclists; by July 24th this year’s champion finally powers through.
For golf fans, the 145th British Open Championships running from July 14th to July 17th in the rugged West of Scotland at Royal Troon provides a fascinating look at the pro’s who make the game look so easy when we know it isn’t!
The long-awaited Rio Olympics has its impressive opening ceremony on August 5th , and just over a week later on August 13th the new football season starts.
