THE USN Bolton Arena has formed a brand new league in conjunction with the Lancashire Football Association.
The LFA has donated funds and equipment to the Arena to help kickstart their 11-a-side leagues. The LFA gave each new team free affiliation and Public Liability Insurance, a free first-aid kit and two free Nike match balls.
In addition, courtesy of LFA; the Arena has been able to halve the cost of match fees to teams, making the league more accessible to all.
A new scheme, Grow the Game, is designed to increase participation in football by helping potential new teams meet essential running costs. This has also been made available to teams to give them access to further support with their running costs, although the window for this funding has now closed.
The new league has a flexible player-friendly structure, explained the Arena’s Football Manager, Marcus Brown. “Not everyone is able to commit to playing 11-a-side every weekend,” he explained. “So our teams play a match every four to six weeks, thus eliminating the weekly pressures of having to field a squad of 14, transport, laundry, meetings etc.
“And in the Summer when our grass pitch closes for re-seeding and when teams traditionally struggle to field 11-a-side teams, we have a special format of nine-a-side on the full-sized 3g artificial pitch ensuring that the momentum is maintained throughout the year.”
The new league has been quickly filled – “which is a phenomenal achievement,” added Marcus.
