Be Inspired – Ann Slavin
After a successful start to our Be Inspired campaign, it’s now time for the second instalment as we find out more about Ann Slavin.
We caught up with Ann, to discuss a range of different topics from her favourite exercises and equipment to what advice she would give to beginners.
Ann has been a member at Bolton Arena Gym for over 13 years after moving into the area and opting for the Arena out of a number of gyms due to the facilities being the best for her. As well as the gym being comfortable and clean with a friendly atmosphere, another plus point for Ann is having the 1 to 1 sessions with our gym instructors, in particular Matt. Ann’s weight has often changed over the years and Matt has helped Ann lose weight in a safe and healthy manner. A lot of poor techniques have been amended in these sessions as well as now having a consistent diet and exercise plan. Ann provided us with some before and after pictures of her weight loss after 12 weeks of being on a specific programme with Matt.
When asked what advice she would give to new gym embers, Ann recommended the one-to-one sessions with our fitness instructors in order to gain experience of how to use our equipment. She also added that working with an instructor improves your motivation and increases confidence.
Ann’s goals when coming into the gym were to lose weight and get strong, through her hard work and determination to push herself Ann now feels as though she has accomplished this. One exercise that has helped this is barbell squats, Ann’s favourite exercise as it makes her feel strong.
