The first ever Big Networking Expo took place at Stateside Foods Bolton Arena on Friday 6th September 2019!
Following the success of Networking Arena events which are hosted quarterly throughout the year, the expo combined networking and exhibition opportunities all in one place. The Big Networking Expo saw over 350 people walk through the doors to meet the 56 exhibitors on the day, with the focus on making new contacts and business relationships.
The event featured three keynote speakers throughout the day, including Tracy Heatley from Better Networking, focused on getting results from our networking. Paul Heath from Ethical Business Mentoring, covered the value of teamwork and Karen Pilkington from The HR Dept, presented on stress awareness for employers. In addition, we had 3 detailed workshops on digital marketing delivered by Paul Cooper from LocaliQ.
We also ran two fun competitions on the day, Kevin Mullin from Greater Manchester Combined Authority won the competition sponsored by Go Ape, Kevin has won a corporate away day for the team at Go Ape Rivington. Stephen Solademi from SOS Creativity was the winner of the Bolton Arena Bounce Ball Challenge, collecting a bottle of wine. A huge thanks to all participants that took part throughout the day.
The Big Networking Expo headline sponsors The ExcluSec Group commented “We thoroughly enjoyed being the headline sponsor at the first Big Networking Expo. We have worked with Bolton Arena on a number of occasions now and look forward to working together in the future”
Paul Heath, Managing Director, Ethical Business Mentoring, “Thanks to Louise and her team for the fantastic job and unstinting efforts that they put into making the Big Networking Expo at the Stateside Foods Arena such an enjoyable experience. I exhibited on the day and also delivered one of the keynote seminars – the preparation before the event was second to none and I was very well looked after on the day. Clearly the marketing had worked because there was a steady flow of attendees throughout the full day an I felt the concept of keynote sessions was well thought through and implemented. This all led to a really vibrant and worthwhile day. Thanks once again.”
We can confirm that Big Networking Expo will be going ahead next year and the date for your diary is Friday 25th September 2020.

After a successful start to our Be Inspired campaign, it’s now time for the second instalment as we find out more about Ann Slavin.
We caught up with Ann, to discuss a range of different topics from her favourite exercises and equipment to what advice she would give to beginners.
Ann has been a member at Bolton Arena Gym for over 13 years after moving into the area and opting for the Arena out of a number of gyms due to the facilities being the best for her. As well as the gym being comfortable and clean with a friendly atmosphere, another plus point for Ann is having the 1 to 1 sessions with our gym instructors, in particular Matt. Ann’s weight has often changed over the years and Matt has helped Ann lose weight in a safe and healthy manner. A lot of poor techniques have been amended in these sessions as well as now having a consistent diet and exercise plan. Ann provided us with some before and after pictures of her weight loss after 12 weeks of being on a specific programme with Matt.
When asked what advice she would give to new gym embers, Ann recommended the one-to-one sessions with our fitness instructors in order to gain experience of how to use our equipment. She also added that working with an instructor improves your motivation and increases confidence.
Ann’s goals when coming into the gym were to lose weight and get strong, through her hard work and determination to push herself Ann now feels as though she has accomplished this. One exercise that has helped this is barbell squats, Ann’s favourite exercise as it makes her feel strong.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Ann.
We’ll have another Be Inspired story for you next month.

Over the coming months we’ll be learning more about some of our gym members. We’ll be discussing training patterns, looking at current regimes, finding out about their why and highlighting any special achievements.
First up is long standing member, Andrea Lewis-Coker.
Andrea, has been a member at Bolton arena for nearly 9 years. She trains almost every day, using the gym, instructor led and virtual classes, whilst also having 1 to 1 sessions with our gym instructors.
Andrea’s main intention when first joining the gym was to keep fit and get some down time for herself after work. However, over the last 12 months she has seen a real change in weight loss and her overall fitness has improved.
We asked Andrea what advice would she given to any of our members ” I’d advise members to complete a programme with one of the instructors. This helps you learn about your strengths & weaknesses, develop your individual goals and keep you focused. The 1:1 sessions with the instructors are also extremely beneficial, as they push you further than you would whilst training on your own. The flexibility and wide range of classes are also a fantastic plus point. With so many classes per week, it’s so easy to fit in a class, if you fancy something different to the gym.”
We recently introduced a number of challenges into the gym. Andrea excelled at one in particular, our rowing challenge last year. Not only did she win, Andrea discovered a new love. Winning our challenge, inspired her to compete further, joining an online team and coming second in her category over 2000m at the English Indoor Rowing Championships at the Manchester Velodrome in February. That’s not all Andrea has won, she has also won a number of USN products provided by us, for winning our Member Of The Month!
Thank you, Andrea for sharing your story and for being a fantastic gym member.
HUNDREDS of people embraced the sunshine at the first ever Made in Manchester festival at Bolton Arena.
The event celebrated the 90s Manchester music scene with Stone Roses, Oasis, the Smiths, and Happy Mondays tribute acts, as well as up-and-coming talent.
People of all ages packed the grassed area to the back of Bolton Arena, with some VIPs also watching from the arena balcony. A number of festivalgoers set up camping chairs to watch the acts while others stood, enjoying a drink or food from one of the vendors on site.
Wigan rockers Stanleys opened the show before making way for the first tribute act of the night Happy Mondaze.
The band featured their very own Bez, who continued to make appearances on stage during other band’s sets.
Next up was one of two Bolton bands on the line-up – Our Fold. Local favourites The Jade Assembly were also performing later in the evening.
Host Dave Sweetmore, from radio station XS Manchester, described Our Fold and The Jade Assembly as “two of the best bands to ever come out of Bolton” and they certainly did not disappoint.
These Smiths took to the stage just as former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr took to the stage at Glastonbury and a fan in a Noel Gallagher mask (above) watched on as The Oasis Experience blasted through a crowd-pleasing set.
Resurrection Stone Roses then rounded off a great day with a euphoric set.
