Bolton Arena Football Manager’s Refereeing Story!

Rumour has it that Marcus, our Football Manager, was born with a ball at his feet – an idea that feels less like a joke and more like destiny. From his earliest days, football has been the cornerstone of his life, both on and off the pitch.

A man whose love for the game runs deep, Marcus has refereed an estimated 13,000 matches at all levels of grassroots football. This impressive milestone is only part of his story. In his playing days, Marcus proudly represented his town, the region, and even BWFC reserves, showcasing his passion and dedication to the sport. Quoted as saying, “Football is my life,”

His reputation as an official is equally remarkable. Recently, Marcus was one of twelve officials selected from a nationwide pool of referees to officiate at the Football Association’s inaugural National Cup Finals for walking football, held at the prestigious St. George’s Park.

Marcus holds the esteemed F.A. 11-a-side Referee Badge, WFA International Referee status and  further solidifying his reputation as one of the top walking football F.A. officials in the UK. With the sport recognised as the nation’s fastest-growing sport over the last seven years, Marcus has been instrumental in bringing his expertise to the forefront whether here at Bolton Arena or the formation of the hugely popular Lancashire Leagues programme catering for over fifty teams.
While his contributions as a coach are noteworthy, Marcus insists on keeping the focus on his officiating – a role where his passion and dedication perhaps shine the brightest.

Marcus’s journey serves as an inspiration to anyone who loves the game, showing that football truly is more than just a sport – it’s a way of life.
