Thursday 9th February saw the Arena host our Make Some Noise business event. The event was put on to showcase how working with the Arena could benefit local businesses. USN Bolton Arena chairman Richard Hurst hosted the event.
Sponsors Stateside Foods, Emerson, Craftprint and Lostock Motor Works all gave fantastic speeches to over 60 businesses, talking of the positive impact that working with the Arena has had on their business. After the speeches guests were able to network at their own leisure.
Events and B2B Manager, Hannah Mooney said “The event was a huge success. It allowed local businesses the chance to find out more about the Arena and what goes on here.
“Not many people realise that we are in fact a charity with all our profits going back into the facility and the programmes which we run. So to be able to support the community whilst advertising to our many visitors is a win win for our sponsors.”

A WELL-respected Bolton motor vehicle service centre has become the latest sponsor of the USN Bolton Area.
Lostock Motor Works, based in Lynstock Way not far from the Arena, is a local Bosch car service centre with all the reliability, quality and efficiency that this name automatically means.
The business was started nine years ago by Mr Jonathan Farrimond, who has been in the motor trade for 25 years. He and Michael Ward Ltd began the company because they saw a need to improve customer service in the industry.
Lostock Motor Works has a full-time staff of six, excluding Mr Farrimond. They bring a range of expertise and experience to the business which takes special care of customers. As well as a pick-up and drop-off vehicle service and a national guarantee, the company works to Trading Standards’ codes of conduct.
Lostock Motor Works attracts clients from all over the Bolton area and beyond, offering car services and MOTs among a diverse range of vehicle services which includes servicing fleets of vans.
The company chose to become a Bolton Arena sponsor because, as Mr Farrimond explained: “We know that the Arena attracts a large number of local people of all ages – many of them drivers – and as a local company we would love to tap into this.
“The Arena is the right demographic, with the right kind of footfall and we’re looking forward to working with them.”

We had another successful event in April, when a cross-section of business people from around the area and beyond representing all kinds of businesses enjoyed a free, informal afternoon of networking.
The next networking event is on Thursday, July 21, from 3pm to 5pm. “We get very good feedback from companies that this event is really useful to their business,” explained Hannah Mooney, the Arena’s B2B and Events Manager.
“One aspect is that those attending can bring guests along with them if they want to and they sometimes find it useful to bring clients.”

JOB: Commercial manager
CAREER PATH: After graduating from Trent Polytechnic, I spent 16 years in local authority leisure departments in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Coventry and Yorkshire. I then set up a marketing department before making the move to Bolton Arena in 2007.
WHAT DOES YOUR JOB ENTAIL? I oversee the fitness, conferencing, events and the various business services we offer such as office spaces and sponsorship opportunities. I am also responsible for marketing and I’m a member of the Arena’s senior management team.
WHAT ATTRIBUTES DOES YOUR JOB NEED? The main purpose of the job is to make sure the Arena generates enough revenues to sustain itself so you need to be creative, resourceful and business-focused. We are quite a small team so you have to be a team player and help and support your colleagues to get the job done! But, we are a people business so the most important attributes are a passion for people and for sport and fitness.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT YOUR JOB? I get a real buzz from coming up with new ideas, putting them into practice and then seeing people of all ages getting enjoyment and excitement from the activities and facilities we’ve provided.
WHAT IS YOUR CAREER PLAN? At the moment, I am fully focused on my role at the Arena. We’ve got lots of exciting projects ahead and I am looking forward to working with colleagues to bring them to fruition and making the Arena an even better place to work and visit.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT WORKING AT THE ARENA? As a sporty person, it’s great to be surrounded by great sports facilities and like-minded people. The Arena is full of great people (colleagues and customers) and it’s a pleasure to come to work.
VISITORS to the USN Bolton Arena may now notice that it’s much easier to find your way around the building.
This is down to a £6,000 investment in a large range of new internal signage which the Arena has created with the help of one of its sponsors, Fastsigns.
As the Arena’s Commercial Manager, Gwyn Hughes, explained: “Many of the signs we had were original to the building from 15 years ago. Things have changed considerably since then, with new facilities being added and the use of certain facilities changing, so we felt it was time to bring the signage fully up to date.
“Designing a new signage scheme for a building like Bolton Arena is a major project. We walked for several miles around the Arena’s 3 floors over and over again to make sure the content and position of the signs were right.
“We have worked with Fastsigns over a number of years. This is by far the biggest job they have done for us and we are delighted with the outcome. We are already receiving lots of positive feedback from staff and customers.
“We are very grateful to Fastsigns for their professional work on this project and for their loyal support as sponsors.
THE USN Bolton Arena’s well-known networking events look like going from strength to strength in the New Year.
In 2015 the regular free events proved very successful: our January event had 52 registered attendees, April had 63, July took a hit due to the school holidays at 59 and then we had 76 in October showing that the events are getting bigger and better.
Many of the businesses based at the Arena have attended the events and have ended up making beneficial connections.
Craftprint attends regularly and “reignited” a working relationship with the Arena by becoming one of our sponsors. A huge range of businesses attend the events – from insurance services and lawn care to business support, solicitors and photographers.
The first networking event of the New Year is on Thursday afternoon, January 28, with the rest of our 2016 events on April 28, July 21 and December 15.
