This is an exciting time for the Arena, and as part of the Strategic Leadership Team you will be a commercially minded individual who is results orientated, target driven and self-motivated. You will be accountable for a number of areas, including Health & Fitness Membership, Conference & Events, Sponsorship, B2B & Office Rentals you will be able to identify additional opportunities and work closely with other Senior colleagues on all commercially related activity across the business.
To be considered for this post you will be an excellent communicator and influencer with a strong background and knowledge of sales and marketing, ideally within the sports, leisure or similar sector. This is a strategic post requiring, creativity, insight into current leisure trends, product knowledge and excellent planning and organisation skills.

WHAT IS YOUR BACKGROUND?: I was born in Bolton and educated at St James’s C of E College and Salford College
WHAT IS YOUR CAREER PATH SO FAR?: I declined a builder’s apprenticeship/semi-pro contract in favour of a job offer to work at BWFC’s Burnden Sports Centre where I spent 12 fantastic years as a football coach, leagues’ co-ordinator, gym instructor, sports centre assistant manager and non-contract player under BWFC manager Phil Neal. From 1999 to 2004 I was employed as Football Manager at Manor Golf and Football Complex in Clifton and from 2004 I’ve been employed as Football Manager at the USN Bolton Arena.
WHAT MOTIVATED YOU INTO THAT FIELD? All was set for my builder’s apprenticeship at age 15 when I won a borough-wide schools’ endurance competition called Superstars. This involved 100 competitors with the top 10 spending a weekend at BWFC to compete in the grand final. This consisted of swimming, football skills, numerous lung-bursting fitness tests and running. The BWFC Sports Centre Manager, Bill Longden, offered me a new post at the centre after which I had no hesitation in working for BWFC. Under the mentorship of Bill Longden, we formed the Junior Whites, Burnden 7s leagues – Bolton’s first outdoor small-sided leagues – amongst numerous other coaching and football projects.
WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY AND WHAT IS YOUR FITNESS REGIME?
Nowadays, my fitness regime consists of five to six days at our Arena gym, coaching my U16s team Chorley and the occasional 10km run.
WHAT ARE THE BEST THINGS ABOUT WORKING AT THE ARENA? I’m lucky enough to have met and formed friendships with some amazing people and characters. I also love the diversity of programmes we offer to the local and wider community, and all the attention we adhere to in terms of Health & Safety. Last but by no means least, I love the opportunity to be part of an ever-evolving team of employees.
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS? I have two career goals – to remain as Arena Football Manager for years to come, and to work for the FA or Lancs FA.
