THERE was plenty of entertaining expertise and talent on show when the USN Bolton Arena held its very first gymnastics festival.
The event, sponsored and supported by British Gymnastics and Active Dancewear, was part of a whole series of festivals across the country. These are part of the British Gymnastics festival programme and “Gymnastics For All”, designed to encourage all ages to take up and enjoy the sport.
The successful event included the Bolton Arena’s own gymnastics team, plus groups from St Helens, Penketh, Merseyside and GR8 from Leigh. The Arena was also privileged to have the National Disability Display team attending, drawn from all over the country.
The festival provided an afternoon of creative choreography, fantastic costumes and tumbling gymnastics. British Gymnastics and special guest from City of Manchester, John Smethurst, selected the most artistic performance on the day and this went to GR8 for the gymnastics content of their routine, their costumes and a faultless display. All groups were praised for their performance and all went away with medals, certificates and goody bags.
Bolton Arena Gymnastics Club has classes for all ages, from walking to adults, scheduled every day of the week. To find out more contact email@example.com
YOUNGSTERS from the Bolton Arena Gymnastics Club put on a great performance in the GymFusion event at The Lowry at Salford Quays.
GymFusion is a gymnastics showcase which aims to give the participants a chance to display their gymnastics skills as a team. The event shows the diverse nature of gymnastics in a way that no other event can, by bringing together the gymnastics community.
This years event had a Carnival theme and saw 16 young gymnasts from the Arena take part. This was their first time performing both together and on stage.
They performed a group floor routine and were competing against clubs from as far afield as Warrington, Cheshire and Leeds and, as the Arena’s Sue Hayes stated: “They did themselves, their parents, the club and their coaches proud.”
An array of routines were featured from the different gymnastic disciplines. The full list of teams there was: HPL Gymnastics, Leeds Gymnastics Club, Bridgewater Gymnastics Club, Diamonds T n‘ T, Warrington Gymnastics Display Team, Border Counties School of Gymnastics, National Disabilities Display Team, Cheshire Gymnastics, Wigan Seagulls Display Team, The Wire Gymnastics Club and Gymfinity.
The parents attending had an equally enjoyable time and comments ranged from “It was a fabulous event – they had a great time”, “Katie had a fabulous time and the show was great” to “Nicole really enjoyed being on the main stage of the Lowry. We are so proud of her and her team mates. A very well done to all the coaches.”
A massive well done must go to the group of gymnasts that attended GymFusion at The Lowry on 28th February.
The group, aged 7 to 13 years, performed a group floor routine on the stage. This was the first time the gymnasts had performed as a group and the first time on a stage too.
The gymnasts did both themselves, their parents, the club and their coaches proud.
