Gym Challenge: The Ultimate Member

Do you come to the gym often? Take part in a variety of different activities? Consider yourself  to be a gym hero? Well June could very well be your month.

Next month we will be running an “Ultimate Member” gym challenge where you’ll get the chance to accrue points taking part in a number of different gym activities.

Not only will you get the title of USN Bolton Arena’s Ultimate Member, but we’ve also put up some great prizes. We have a 1st place prize of £50 worth of shopping vouchers for the member with the most points and a raffle prize for everyone that completes four out of six activities.

The different activities include a studio class, an active session, an outdoor session, a programme review, attending the gym and liking us on Facebook. Once you have completed four, you’ll go into the prize draw for the chance to win £30 worth of shopping vouchers.

Over the coming months Arena based business Summit Physio will be going over a number of common injuries and how to avoid them. This month they highlight the pressures of skiing…

The increase in the number of skiers has resulted in an increase in the number of musculoskeletal injuries requiring medical attention, not to mention muscular strain and soreness not requiring medical care. The chances of injury during skiing exceed football, which many people consider to be one of the most dangerous sports.

Proper physical conditioning is important to prevent joint injury as well as muscular strains and soreness. Fatigue is a major factor causing ski injury. This is not surprising since “skiing is probably the sport in which the largest proportion of people who participate, especially adults, do not condition themselves.”

Skiing requires proper conditioning and may result in a number of musculoskeletal injuries. Injuries of this variety may be prevented by physical conditioning of the skiing enthusiast in a specific program. We have presented a program that may be useful in both clinical and training settings as a method to enhance muscular endurance necessary for increased enjoyment of the skiing experience and to condition the musculoskeletal system for the substantial demands required of it during downhill and cross-country skiing.

Team Of The Month: Vamos Campeones

Each month we pick a football “Team of the month” and give them some goodies, which are kindly supplied by our sponsors USN.

The team can be picked for a number of reasons, whether it’s because of their commitment to the Arena leagues, they had an epic fail in their last match or they pulled of an insane bit of Tekkers!

February’s team of the month is Rob Whites’ Vamos Campeones of the Tuesday 5s Premier League. This being their 10th anniversary since registering to play at the Arena seems very fitting to reward a team based upon outstanding contribution both on and off the pitches.

Players such as Seb Miller, Nick Hunger, Stu Latchford, John Nuttall whilst still in their early twenties are regarded as veterans within our leagues. One particular quality of Vamos’ is whether rain or shine, BWFC, Utd games or any other big live game they’ll always fulfill their fixture, always display exemplary sportsmanship albeit a win, loss or draw. The perfect role model of a committed and loyal five-a-side team.

Let’s Move For A Better World Challenge 2017

It’s back! Technogym’s popular gym challenge, Let’s Move For A Better World, returns to the Arena 13th – 31st March.

The challenge works by recording members MOVES (measurements of physical activity, collected by training on Technogym cardio and strength equipment connected to the MyWellness cloud) collectively as a club. Our MOVES are then tallied against other clubs around the UK, with the winning club receiving the grand prize of Technogym equipment. It’s a challenge that all members can get involved with, just jump on a piece of cardio equipment and get MOVing.

As a club we won the challenge back in 2014. We were then able to donate thousands of pounds worth of Technogym gym equipment to Rivington and Blackrod High School.

We are also offering individual prizes. Everyone who enters the challenge will be in with a chance of winning some amazing prizes! Last year we gave away free gym memberships, gift vouchers and daily spot prizes, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled for what’s on offer this time around.

WHAT DOES YOUR WORK INVOLVE: Helping people reach their goals, gain more confidence in the gym and help customers gain more knowledge of Health and Fitness.

HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR: Passing my level 3 personal training qualification, and developing my career by increasing my time on the gym floor. Also passing my qualification in applied nutrition to further my knowledge in this industry.

SPECIAL WORK CHALLENGES: Showing my diversity by working with people who have different training needs than myself, which has helped me enhance my knowledge.

FUTURE PLANS: To progress in the fitness industry, and to develop myself as a fitness instructor to ensure I am giving clients the knowledge and motivation to succeed.
