Exceptional service at Ex-Scan
A BUSINESS that offers a specialised medical service has been at the USN Bolton Arena for 11 years and has established a strong reputation regionally and nationally.
Ex-Scan UK offers diagnostic and research open MRI scanning services. It was started by renowned knee and hip surgeon Mr Aslam Mohammed, who is based at Wrightington Hospital in Wigan, to ensure the swift availability of MRI scanning for his patients.
It has grown steadily over the years to cater for various consultants and GPs. His wife, Judith Rhind a trained nurse, runs the service and medical director is well-known clinical radiologist at Wrightington, Dr David Temperley.
The huge open MRI scanner is one of only eight of its type in the UK and is especially useful for anyone suffering from claustrophobia, for anyone obese and for children who might be afraid of the usual tube scanner.
It’s popular with consultants and physiotherapists keen to get patients scanned quickly, and sees individuals from around the country as well as from Ireland and Europe.
The scanner is used for a variety of musculo-skeletal problems, often linked to sports injuries, and so is a natural fit with the Arena.
Ex-Scan’s patients are largely from the private medical field although it does some NHS work. Scans usually cost £550 each but there is a discount price to physios of £225 and ad hoc discounting available to the general public.
“As a base, the Arena works well for us,” explained Judith Rhind. “There is plenty of free parking and we have always found the atmosphere here pleasant and friendly.”
